Maine Cancer Foundation is dedicated to reducing Maine's cancer incidence and mortality rates by funding research, prevention, early detection and access to care, with 100% of funds staying in Maine.
How We Fight Cancer:
Supporting Cancer Research
Maine Cancer Foundation is proud to support world-class cancer research in our state, encouraging economic growth and providing the path for tomorrow’s cures. The Foundation currently offers 1 and 2-year grant funding to promising scientists at Maine research facilities.
Fostering Prevention Practices
Prevention strategies have a proven impact on cancer incidence rates. The Foundation supports several state-wide prevention efforts to reduce cancer, focusing on smoking, obesity and environmental toxins.
Increasing Early Detection
Several cancers have well-developed treatments but all cancers have better patient outcomes when detected early. The Foundation supports programs that improve and increase early detection and screening efforts.
Improving Access to Care
Maine’s size and rural nature make easy access to medical care a challenge. The Foundation supports efforts to improve patient outcomes through telemedicine, transportation and the adoption of new technologies that improve access.
Maine Cancer Foundation was started in 1976 by a group of concerned citizens eager to do more for Maine in the fight against cancer. Over the years, our targets have shifted as new treatments and hard-won knowledge have become available to doctors and patients. We owe our success to those who came before us, and are dedicated to continue the fight for those who will come after. The Maine Cancer Foundation continually seeks to invest in the most promising and effective cancer-fighting programs available in Maine.
We are proud of our record of accomplishment and we hope that you will continue to support this grand vision: a future where cancer is no longer a threat to our loved ones.
