The Need for Increased Cancer Screening:

It is vital to catch cancer at the earliest stages when it is treatable and beatable. Increasing Maine’s cancer screening rates could save thousands of lives annually.

Cancer Screening Facts:

  • A new form of lung cancer screening called a “Low-Dose CT Scan” is being introduced to the state and could have a major impact on survival.
  • Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in Maine. Routine screening for breast cancer is important to lower the risk of dying from the disease. Breast cancer is most treatable when detected at stage I, II and III.
  • Colorectal cancer is highly treatable when detected early, yet it remains the 3rd most common cause of cancer death in Maine. In addition, routine exams are shown to prevent colon cancer.
